The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library evolved from the Illinois State Historical Library, founded in 1889. It opened on October 14, 2004. The Abraham Lincoln Museum opened shortly thereafter on April 19, 2005.

It is referred to as the Lincoln Museum, until 1970 the Ford Theater in Washington DC was also called the Lincoln Museum.

The library and the Lincoln Museum are operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is owned by the US state of Illinois.

The world’s largest collection on former President Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War can be found when you visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. But also more than twelve million manuscripts, books and objects on the history of Illinois can be found here.

In the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, the history of the nation with all 16 Presidents of the USA is told in detail and the course of the American Civil War is presented. Since the beginning of 2014 there has been an extra exhibition “Lincoln: History after Hollywood”. The focus is on the office by Abraham Lincoln, a vignette of Mary Lincoln’s bedroom, costumes and props.Children are free at this special exhibit, adults are only $5.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum has received two awards: the Themed Entertainment Association Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Lincoln Group of New York’s Commendation of Appreciation of Abraham Lincoln.

In the historic downtown area of ​​Springfield are the buildings of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Very close to other attractions to Abraham Lincoln in Springfield.
The Lincoln Museum and Library consists of three buildings. There is even a road between the museum and the library, so both buildings are connected by a covered passage. The third building serves as the visitor center for the Abraham Lincoln Museum.

The Abraham Lincoln Museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Last admission is at 4 p.m. The Lincoln Museum is only closed on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
