Modelled upon a Doric tempte, the Lincoln Memorial is a tribute to president
Abraham Licoin and the nation he tought to preserve during the civil war,
the nation's bloodiest conflict. Enclosed by a reflecting pool in front, a
large statue of president Lincoin, sculpted by paniel chester French sits in
solemn thought grasping the arms of his throne like chair. The monument has
the Gettuburg Address inscribed on its southern wall and a mural painted by
Jules Guerin above it, showing the angel of truth liberating a slave. As a
symbol of freedom and racial harmony, the Lincoin Memorial was the site of
Martin Luther king's 'I have a dream 'speach in August 1963.
