Warren is 3 miles/5 Km south of Waitsfield 205 mi/330 km northwest of Boston
and 43 mi/69 Km southeast of Burlington. The Scenic Mad River Valley one of
Vermont's better kept secrets, surrounds the towns of Warren and waitsfield
and has something of a Shangri-La quality. In places its changed little
since first settled in 1789 by Gen. Benjaminwait and a handful of
Revolutionary War Veterans, including minutemen at the battles of concord
Bridge and Lexington. Since 1948, Ski-related development has competed with
early firms that were the backbone of the region for 2 centuries, but the
newcomers haven't been too pusy or overly obnovious at least so far. The
region hasn't fallen prey to unbridled condo or strip mall developers and
the valley seems to have learned the lessons of haphazard development that
afflicts mount snow and Killington to the south. The Valley maintains a
friendly and informal attitude even daring peak ski season, residents hope
to keep it that way, even in the face of certain growth. |
