Escapes
Quiet coves around the lake are great places to catch trout and kokanee salmon,
or just get away from it all.
Eagles in Winter
The lake and surrounding area are a major wintering ground for bald eagles and
other birds such as red-tail hawks, water ouzels, and ospreys.
El Vado Townsite
In the early 1900s, before the lake was constructed, the town of El Vado was a
noisy, bustling railroad and lumber center and the largest town in the county.
Getting There
El Vado Lake State Park is 17 miles southwest of Tierra Amarilla via NM 112.
