Manager's Message
The Fall and Winter seasons mark some of the best months for visiting the park.
The weather is great for all forms of activities to include fishing and walking
along some of the more remote and natural beaches one can find anywhere along
the southeast coast of Florida. So what better time than to take this
opportunity to visit our award winning parks. I am sure you will agree that
Avalon is one of the most picturesque beach settings that you will ever see.
Avalon, which is located along the scenic and historic Highway A1A is the
perfect place to stop and visit when traveling in the area. You will find the
view of the ocean from the parking lot at Avalon to be breathtaking. Should you
decide to walk the beach or get your feet wet, there are showers and a bathhouse
with changing stalls conveniently located on the southern end of the parking
lot. While in the area, we also invite you to visit nearby Fort Pierce Inlet
State Park, located just four miles south along Highway A1A. Fort Pierce Inlet
offers extensive opportunities for fishing, swimming and picnicking, to include
large pavillions available for use and/or rental. Thank you for visiting our web
site. We look forward to your visit!
- Perry Smith, Park Manager
Welcome to Avalon State Park
One of the state's newest seaside parks, Avalon has more than a mile of
increasingly rare undeveloped beachfront. The park provides habitat for many
species of wildlife. Threatened and endangered sea turtles, like the loggerhead,
Atlantic green, and leatherback, nest on the beach during the spring and summer.
For beach recreation, boardwalks over the fragile dunes welcome swimmers,
snorkelers, and sunbathers.
Swimmers and snorkelers are advised to be cautious of underwater obstacles left
behind by amphibious warfare exercises during World War II.
Visitors can enjoy a meal at sheltered picnic tables overlooking the beach.
Located along A1A on North Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, four miles
north of Ft. Pierce Inlet State Park.
