Blackwoods
Open All Year
Primitive camping only from December 1 to March 31. Permit required.
Located on Route 3, five miles south of Bar Harbor. Reservations required from
May 1 to October 31. Fee: $20 per night per site. All sites are wooded and
within a 10-minute walk of the ocean. The majority of sites are for tents, small
and large, but other sites accomodate pop-ups, vehicle campers, and RVs up to 35
feet. A maximum of one vehicle and six people is allowed at each site.
There are no hook-ups. Campground facilities include comfort stations, cold
running water, dump station, picnic tables, fire rings, and water faucets.
Showers and camping supply stores are within 1/2 mile of the campground.
Group Camping Sites - Blackwoods and Seawall
Blackwoods - May 15 - October 15. Seawall - May 24 to September 30.

Nine group campsites (five at Seawall and four at Blackwoods) accommodate 15
campers per site. Reservations are made through the park. For a group camping
reservation form, visit the group camping page or write to the park after
January 1. Return the completed application on or after March 15.
Group campsites contain two or three fireplaces, picnic tables, and a nearby
restroom with cold running water and flush toilets. Rates are $50 per night per
site.
Isle au Haut

Remote and inaccessible to automobiles, Isle au Haut is linked to the mainland
by mailboat from Stonington, Maine. No automobile ferry exists.
Five lean-to shelters at Duck Harbor Campground can be used on an advance
reservation basis from May 15 through October 14. Shelters have three sides,
roof, and floor, and accomodate up to six people. A small free-standing tent may
be erected inside lean-to only.
Facilities include a fire ring, picnic table, pit toilet, and hand pump for
water. Bring containers for water. There is no trash disposal. All trash must be
carried out. Pets are not permitted in the campground.
Reservations are required; visit the Isle Au Haut camping page for more
information about reservation requests and forms. Requests must be postmarked or
received in person at park headquarters April 1 or later. There is a $25 fee.
Maximum stay is 3 nights from mid-June to mid-September, and 5 nights before and
after these dates.
Seawall
Open May 24 - September 30
Located on Route 102A, four miles south of Southwest Harbor. First-come,
first-served. In late July and August there is a great demand for campsites;
lines form early each morning. Fees range from $14 for walk-in tent sites to $20
for drive-up tent, camper, and motorhome sites.

sites are for tents, both drive-in and walk-in sites, but other sites accomodate
pop-ups, vehicle campers, and RVs up to 35 feet. A maximum of one vehicle and

Additional Regulations and Tips
By following these regulations and tips, you can help protect park resources and
make your stay at Acadia more enjoyable. Thank you for planning ahead and
complying with park regulations.
� All camping must be done in established campgrounds. Overnight backpacking is
prohibited in Acadia National Park because the park is small and fragile.
� No person may camp in the park for more than a total of 30 days in a calendar
year. From May 1 through October 31, camping is limited to 14 days total in
Blackwoods and Seawall Campgrounds.
� Blackwoods and Seawall Campgrounds are closed to persons other than registered
campers from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
� Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Generators may only be used from 8 a.m.
to 7 p.m.
� Check-out time is 10 a.m.
� All campers must comply with conditions of camping permits.
� Camping fees are subject to change. Camping fees and entrance fees are
separate charges.
� Fires: Contained charcoal and wood fires are prohibited except in provided
fireplaces or receptacles or private grills in established campgrounds and
picnic areas. Dead and down wood may be collected for campfires in the park
provided that 1) wood is not collected from within the campground unless it is
in park-provided wood piles and 2) chainsaws are not used to gather wood.
� Pets: Pets must be kept on a leash six feet or less in length and may not be
left unattended. Please do not leave pets locked in the car. On an 85-degree
day, the temperature inside a car梕ven with the windows cracked梒an reach over 100
degrees within 10 minutes.
� Food Storage: Proper food storage helps ensure your safety and the safety of
those camping around you. Please store all human and pet foods and cooking
equipment in an enclosed vehicle or a hard-sided food locker whenever you are
not present. This precaution will limit the opportunity for wild animals to be
attracted to your camping site, tent, or vehicle. Remember to place all garbage,
including empty cans and bottles, in trash containers or in your vehicle. Never
store food or any container with human or pet foods in your tent or under tarps.
Park regulations require all campers to properly store food, trash, cooking
utensils, and other items that may attract wildlife. Failure to do so may result
in a fine.
� Revegetation at Blackwoods: In response to extensive rehabilitation at
Blackwoods Campground, the park has undertaken a revegetation project to replace
much of the vegetation that was lost during construction. Here抯 how you can help
make this project a success and help restore these areas to their natural
condition:
Areas where native plants are planted will be roped off and signed to indicate
what抯 happening there. Small trees and shrubs will be mulched with wood chips.
Please don抰 walk through these areas or damage new or existing plants or trees.
Stay on designated paths at Blackwoods Campground. Taking shortcuts kills
plants!
Remember: It only takes one footstep to kill a plant!
� Firewood Alert: Attention! Firewood brought in from other areas may contain
non-native insect species that pose a threat to Acadia National Park's
resources. Please leave your firewood at home if you live in the affected areas:
portions of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana (emerald ash borer) and portions of
Illinois, New York, and New Jersey (Asian long horned beetle). Quarantines have

Group Camping
At Blackwoods and Seawall Campgrounds, nine group campsites (five at Seawall and

Winter Camping
From December 1 through March 31, Blackwoods Campground is available for
primitive camping only. Campers must first obtain a camping permit from the park
dispatch office at Park Headquarters on Route 233 west of Bar Harbor. The
campground entrance road is closed to automobiles during this time period;
campers are required to hike in from the campground entrance. Campers must be
self-sufficient. There is no running water. A portable toilet is available, but
campers must bring their own toilet paper. |
