Reasons for nausea in pregnancy
Most of all pregnant women suffer from nausea (Definitions of nausea: http://www.digopaul.com/english-word/nausea.html) and vomiting, sooner or later, on the feared symptoms. After a few weeks, the topic can be done by itself.
On the other hand, serious problems can also occur here, since excessive vomiting results in excessive fluid loss, which can have negative consequences for the mother and the unborn child. In this case a doctor should be switched on. The causes of this phenomenon are not yet clarified. It is, however, assumed that this is a “natural reflex” which is designed to protect the mother from becoming unfit for the child. Particularly frequently you can observe nausea and vomiting when eating meat, fish and eggs. The hormone chorionic gonadotropin produced during pregnancy can cause the same discomfort, particularly at high concentrations.
Acupuncture and Acupressure Against Nausea?
A study from 2004 shows that one can treat the complaints nausea and vomiting in pregnancy effectively with acupuncture and acupressure. In the study, 36 women who were severely affected by the symptoms were examined. According to the random principle, about half of the women were treated with acupuncture or acupressure, but the rest of the subjects were only appearing to be ill. Concretely, the treatment was about a point on the inside of the wrist. By acupuncture, this point was treated daily for 30 minutes, by acupressure the women of self-developing nausea should press on this point. The remaining volunteers received treatment at non-effective body sites.
Great success of the study
The results of the study speak for themselves. About 90 percent of the test women treated by acupuncture were almost completely or completely relieved of their symptoms after just seven days. The acupressure test persons were nevertheless 64 percent free of complaints. In the “placebo subjects” an improvement of 13 percent could be achieved by acupuncture, the acupressure remained without any effect. Both forms of therapy are entirely without any side effects and are therefore particularly suitable for pregnant women because the unborn child is not burdened. Therefore, acupuncture and acupuncture can be regarded as a very effective, gentle and economical solution for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Above all, the acupressure can be applied practically at home, but is not suitable for the “serious cases”.
