CAMPUS SUMMARY
With a
progressive and challenging
curriculum, Edgewood College offers
the advantages of a small private
college in the university-oriented
city of Madison, Wisconsin. The
result is a stimulating learning
environment, rich in academic and
recreational resources. An intimate
and friendly college, Edgewood is
chosen by students for whom personal
attention, involvement, and
individuality are important. As
expressed in the college's mission
statement, "We foster open, caring,
thoughtful engagement with one
another and an enduring commitment
to service, all in an educational
community that seeks truth,
compassion, justice, and
partnership."
Madison is a growing and exciting
community, with a colorful
assortment of art fairs, outdoor
markets, festivals, competitions,
and concerts taking place throughout
the year. The city has a stable
economy, driven by a broad base of
educational, medical, and financial
institutions as well as light
industry. Edgewood's 55-acre wooded
campus is situated on the shore of
Lake Wingra, in a residential
neighborhood of Madison near parks
and an arboretum. Though founded as
a Catholic college by the Sinsinawa
Dominican Sisters in 1927, Edgewood
has for years sponsored an
ecumenical program involving
students and faculty members of many
faiths.
UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
What
sets Edgewood apart from other
institutions is the Human Issues
Study program which, arising out of
the Mission, addresses a significant
human issue through experience and
intellectual rigor from an
interdisciplinary perspective. The
goals of the Human Issues program
are personal development, a sense of
responsibility for service, and a
vision toward peace and justice.
Edgewood offers over 40 majors and 5
graduate programs, preparing its
students with the skills employers
want and the flexibility of outlook
and approach that a liberal arts
background fosters.
