Living in Washington

Native American art galleries are numerous. Look for totem and
mask carvings, baskets, pottery and weavings. Snohomish is the
self-proclaimed antique capital of the Pacific Northwest, with
more than 100 shops within walking distance of downtown.
Bellevue has a European-streetscape district, Bellevue Square,
that has more than 200 shopping establishments. Many stores
supply outdoor gear and sportswear, especially the products of
Recreation Equipment Inc. (REI), Eddie Bauer, North Face and
Roffe. Food-related items: Northwest favorites such as apples,
smoked salmon and berry products-try the sugar-free syrups and
spreads from Granger Berry Patch, near Yakima. Washington
produces some outstanding wines. The main wine-producing areas
in the state are the Yakima Valley, the Columbia Valley, Red
Mountain, north-central Puget Sound and the Walla Walla Valley.
Each has a large selection of wineries where you can tour and
taste.
