Campus Description:
Hofstra University is a dynamic, independent, private University
offering more than 140 undergraduate and 150 graduate programs
in liberal arts and sciences, business, communications,
education and allied human services, and honors studies. With a
student-faculty ratio of 14 to 1, our professors teach small
classes that emphasize interaction, critical thinking and
analysis. At Hofstra, students have all the resources they need
for a complete educational experience–excellent library
resources, and state-of-the-art classrooms, learning laboratory
facilities, and wireless access to the Internet. With a diverse
mix of students, Hofstra University’s vibrant campus hosts a
wide selection of cultural, social, athletic, and recreational
activities, providing students with the full college experience.
The Hofstra libraries through a combination of wireless and
wired technologies allow immediate access to information.
Hofstra’s Online Information System provides students easy
access to their academic record. In addition, Hofstra offers a
financial trading room, comprehensive media production facility,
career center, writing center, linux beowolf cluster, digital
language lab, technology, science and engineering labs, a
rooftop observatory, 7 theaters, assessment centers for child
observation and counseling, child care institute, cultural
center, museum, arboretum, and bird sanctuary. Hofstra houses
4,200 students in a variety of residence halls and on-campus
apartments including quiet floors, international student
housing, and freshmen housing.
Sports:
Varsity Sports, NCAA Division I: Women's: basketball,
cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball,
tennis, volleyball. Men's: baseball, basketball,
cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis,
wrestling.
Intramural Sports: Women's: badminton, basketball,
soccer, softball, table tennis, volleyball, weight lifting.
Men's: badminton, basketball, soccer, softball, table
tennis, volleyball, weight lifting. Coed: badminton,
dodgeball, flag football, fun runs, homerun derby, quarterback
challenge, recreational badminton, team handball, tennis
tournaments, ultimate frisbee.
Club Sports: Women's:crew, equestrian, ice hockey,
lacrosse, rugby, ultimate frisbee. Men's: crew,
equestrian, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, ultimate frisbee.Coed:athletic
training, cheerleading.
Clubs and Activities:
Hofstra places great emphasis on the role of the student in the
life of the university. The campus has numerous theaters and art
galleries, an accredited museum, an FCC licensed radio station,
an on campus television station, a variety of restaurants, an
Olympic sized pool, and extensive recreational facilities.
Additionally there are more than 150 clubs and organizations,
including almost 30 local and national sororities/fraternities,
and more than 500 cultural events a year, including about 12
museum exhibits annually. The clubs include the following:
Christian Intervarsity Fellowship, Hillel, Muslim Student
Association, Karma, Mitrah Mommas, Iranian Jews, Newman Club,
African People's Organization, Hellenic Society, APO, H2O, CIAO,
Circle K, Hofstra Organization of Latin Americans (HOLA), South
Asian Student Organization, Hofstra Democrats, Young
Republicans, WOA, Mutalist Federation, Students Against
Injustice, Students for Life.
