Application Requirements:
HS transcript; recommendation; SAT or ACT; essay;
extra-curricular activities; interview encouraged; additional
credentials may be required for some students; portfolio

transcript(s); 2.5 minimum GPA. Please note that we will accept
test scores prior to the administration of the new SAT and ACT.
Campus Description:
Pioneer Seventh Day Baptists who had settled in the foothills of
the Allegheny Mountains founded Alfred University as a select
school in 1836. Alfred became the first co-educational
institution in New York State and the second in the nation.
Approximately 2,000 full-time students and 300 graduate students
work and live in 58 buildings on a scenic 600-acre hillside
campus adjoining the village of Alfred.
The non-sectarian University is comprised of the privately
endowed College of Business, the College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences, and the New York State College of Ceramics (School of
Art and Design and the Inamori School of Engineering).
Bachelor's, master's, doctoral degrees, as well as the
certificate of advanced study are awarded as the culmination of
Alfred University's academic and professional programs.
Sports:
Varsity Sports, NCAA Division III: Women's: basketball,
cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving,
tennis, indoor and outdoor track, volleyball. Men's:
basketball, cross-country, football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming
and diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track. Coed:
equestrian, skiing.
Intramural Sports: Approximately 20 intramural sports
offered.
Club Sports: Women's: field hockey, rugby. Men's:
baseball, ice hockey, rugby. Coed: crew.
Clubs and Activities:
There are more than 100 clubs, groups, and organizations
available to Alfred University students. We have a very active
student government and media outlets such as AUTV, and our
student newspaper, Fiat Lux. We encourage our students to
participate in campus activities as part of the Alfred
experience. Some of our popular programs include Hot Dog Day
weekend, SAB Concerts, and the Alfies Award Show.
