Traveling to Montana

The Wild West is very much a part of a visit to Montana, though you may find yourself longing for a bit more wildness if you visit some of the historical sites. You can gain a real affection for frontier times in such places, but their visitor centers and well-stocked gift shops are constant reminders that civilization arrived long ago. Travel into the backcountry of Glacier National Park, however, and you'll find unspoiled scenery that looks much as it has for centuries. Montana need not be all history and hiking, of course. There are plenty of comfortable guest ranches and resorts for those who like to keep the modern world close at hand. And the steep terrain and cold winters of the Montana Rockies provide excellent ski conditions.
