Boston University
Founded in 1839, Boston University --
independent, coeducational, and non-sectarian -- is an
internationally recognized institution of higher education and
research, headed by its tenth president, Robert A. Brown. With
more than 30,000 students from all 50 states and 135 countries,
and 17 schools and colleges, it is the fourth largest
independent university in the United States.
As one of the nation's premier research
universities, Boston University believes that all students
benefit by learning from dedicated teachers who are actively
engaged in original research. The University's learning
environment is further enriched by an extraordinary array of
direct involvements with the broader artistic, economic, social,
intellectual, and educational life of the community. These
relationships provide a distinctly practical edge the
University's educational and research programs, while enhancing
the life and vitality of one of the world's great cities.
The faculty includes Nobel laureates,
MacArthur Fellows, leading scientists, prize-winning authors,
and many more valued scholars. Throughout its history, Boston
University has stayed true to its founding mission of providing
an excellent education and helping students become valuable
members of society. The university’s most famous and respected
alumnus, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., exemplifies the spirit of
community and innovation that pervades our campus.
