Southern University System
Five campuses and more than 70 degrees programs are just the
beginning of the opportunities that exist for students at
Southern's premier universities. Visit one of our campus links
below to learn more.
Southern University and A&M College at Baton Rouge
Southern University is one of the most beautiful university
sites in the South. The Baton Rouge Campus is located on Scott's
Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in the northern section
of the City of Baton Rouge. The University, with a dedicated and
talented faculty of teacher-scholars consisting of approximately
500 persons, provides opportunities for students to do
internships and summer assignments in industry and with the
federal government. Southern provides advantages for
intellectual and personal growth through training by the
division of Military Science (Army ROTC) and Naval Science (Navy
and Marine ROTC).
Southern University at New Orleans
Throughout the history of our university, we have nurtured our
students and provided tremendous opportunities beyond the
classroom. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, our
students, more than ever, will need the assistance of our
university community and the community at large. We cannot
afford to disappoint them. Our arms and doors are open to
welcome them to continue their education, to share their
stories, and to regain some sense of routine.
Southern University at Shreveport
In 1967, Southern University at Shreveport made its humble
beginnings here, on what is now called the Martin Luther King,
Jr. Campus. From the beginning, the priority has been to aid
people from diverse backgrounds to improve the quality of their
lives and become contributing participants in this community's
cultural and economic development. As the needs of the
Shreveport/Bossier City metropolitan area have changed over the
years, so has the Southern University at Shreveport campus and
its role as an active participant in raising the level of
excellence for the community.
Southern University Law Center
As a historically black institution (HBCU) founded in 1946 with
a glorious history tied to the civil rights struggle dating back
to the 1950s, we are proud to note that our graduates are still
in the forefront of cutting-edge legal battles. We have been
successful in training more than 3,000 lawyers who have made
their mark in all areas of the legal profession. They are
practitioners in large and small law firms, as well as in public
interest law, are members of the judiciary and state
legislatures, and are leaders in local, state, and national
government. They attribute their success to the legal education
they received at the Southern University Law Center.
