Rules in Louisiana
Construction work in Louisiana requires licensing by the State
Licensing Board for Contractors. The Board is located at http://www.legis.state.la.us/boards/board_members.asp?board=32.
For a mechanical contractor’s license in the state, the
following limitations apply: a license is required for jobs of
$50,000 or more; no license is required for residential
contractors; classes of contractors include heating, air
conditioning, ventilation, duct work, and refrigeration. In
order to qualify, you must submit references from licensed
contractor; submit audited financial statement showing a net
worth of $10,000; pass an exam on basic construction; and have
insurance. The fees imposed are a $100 license fee, $95
additional classification fee, and $400 nonresident surcharge.
