Adair county was formed in 1802. It is located in the
Pennyrile region of the state. The elevation in the county
ranges from 585 to 1120 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county
population was 17,244 in a land area of 406.84 square miles, an
average of 42.4 people per square mile. The county seat is
Columbia.
