Hartwell, GA

Incorporated as a town February 26, 1856, the City of Hartwell is the county seat of Hart County. The city was named for Nancy Hart, a heroine of the Revolutionary War who served as spy and captured a group of Tories who threatened her home.

The Teasley-Holland House, in Hartwell, is home to Hart County Historical Society and Museum. The historic museum is a one-story, Victorian style home built in 1880 by Isham Asbury Teasley.

The Center of the World historic site/monument, located near Hartwell, gives honor to the location of the Cherokee Indian assembly ground.

Annual events that take place in the city include the Hartwell Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Show, the Antique Boat Show, and Challenge of the Century B.R.A.G. bicycle ride.

Hart State Park, located in Hartwell, offers visitors the opportunity to swim, boat, water ski and fish on the 55,000-acre Lake Hartwell.
