Phoenix Arizona

Phoenix is a very modern city -it didn't really boom
after World War II. Nevertheless, mixed among the new
office towers, technology companies and an abundance of
resorts, spas and restaurants are museums dedicated to
pre-Columbian. The explosive, sprawling growth of the
metropolitan area which includes Glendale, Mesa,
Scottsdale and Tempe.
Phoenix's main visitor center is at Adams and Second
downtown; Mon-Fri 8am-5pm; tel 602/254-6500; there's
also an office at 24th Street and Camelback, at the
northeast corner of the Biltmore Fashion Park; Mon-Sat
10am-9pm, Sun noon-6pm. The main post office is at 4949
E Van Buren St, though the branch at 522 N Central Ave
is more convenient for downtown.
Attraction in Phoenix include Civic Plaza, which
comprises Symphony Hall and a convention center; and
America West Arena, the home of the Phoenix Suns
professional basketball team and the Phoenix Coyotes
professional hockey team. The Arizona Cardinals, a
professional football team, plays its home games at Sun
Devil Stadium in nearby Tempe. The Arizona Diamondbacks,
a professional baseball team, began playing in the new
Bank One Ballpark in 1998. Annual events in Phoenix
include the National Livestock Show, the Agricultural
Trade Fair, the Arizona State Fair, and the Cowboy
Artists of America Exhibition.
